I personally feel excited at the prospect of a breakaway movement from the large independents and the Jockey Club Racecourses.
Such a move could clear the path to proper commercial agreements which could be linked to a committed percentage of racing related income. Fixture cuts will be necessary but in return, these tracks should be in receipt of full industry support (including a push for owners/horsemen to support their ‘own’ with runners/sponsorship) and ideally a commitment by the BHA to only make BHA fixtures available to this group of tracks.
Profitability may suffer in the short term but the potential windfalls from working together to grow our sport is huge, I feel.
Those racecourses who do not wish to engage / are happy to retain a short termist approach on executive contribution should be left alone to represent themselves. If they wish to continue paying the bare minimum then that is fine, but they will soon be left behind and two divisions of racecourses/racing will be the inevitable outcome.
